Attractions.io, a leading creator of mobile visitor apps, has shared details of an update to the mobile app at Alton Towers Resort, UK, which provides a new in-app nighttime map feature.

The update is part of the firm’s ongoing collaboration with Alton Towers Resort, and has launched ahead of the park’s popular Scarefest and Ultimate Fireworks Spectacular events.

Unique in-app feature

The updated in-app map will offer improvements in the visitor experience and is the first of its kind in the attractions sector.

It is equipped with dynamic lighting that changes in real time to reflect the ambient light in the park. As night falls and lights illuminate the park’s attractions, the interactive map smoothly adjusts to reflect the surroundings, adding to the after-dark festivities’ ambience. The functionality, which is initially accessible for iOS and will be followed by an Android version, promises to further integrate the physical and digital experience.

Bianca Sammut, divisional director for Alton Towers Resort, comments: “As a Theme Park Resort we strive to be innovative and love to provide our guests with something unique. Thanks to this new feature, Attractions.io have made this possible within our App and I am excited for our guests to see this update in all its glory.”

The upgraded map’s ability to reflect moonlight off the bodies of water in the park, such as the famous lake in front of the towers, is one of its most remarkable characteristics. This attention to detail ensures that visitors are both informed and engaged, in a space where technology and nature combine to improve the visual and sensual experience.

Mark Locker, founder and CEO of Attractions.io, says: “Maps are a key part of the digital guest experience, which is why we invested in creating our own mapping technology, purpose-built for attractions. Our collaboration with Alton Towers to introduce the first-ever nighttime map is a first glimpse into the possibilities this enables, helping guests to feel even more connected to their surroundings. We are excited to continue to innovate and deliver the best possible mapping experience to guests.”

Attractions.io welcomed new chief operating officer, Ted Ismert in August. His appointment follows a string of milestones for the firm, including securing investment from SSA Group, and the launch of a new partnerships scheme.
