Majid Al Futtaim‘s Mall of Oman is on track to open in 2021, having completed two major infrastructure milestones. The shopping attraction will include retailtainment offerings.

Mall of Oman, Majid Al Futtaim’s fifth and biggest lifestyle destination, is scheduled to open in March 21 with 145,000 sqm of space.

Developers have confirmed delivery of new roads and flyovers, which will connect the Mall of Oman to the Muscat Expressway.

The completion of the Muscat Electricity Distribution Company (MEDC) Primary Substation has also been confirmed.

In a statement, the Dubai-based company said four new bridges, an underpass, extensive retaining walls and utility divisions have also been finished.

As well as retail, Mall of Oman will boast various F&B outlets and lifestyle experiences including Oman’s biggest VOX Cinemas, and a Magic Planet family entertainment centre (FEC).

There will also be a 12,200 sqm Carrefour Hypermarket, and the largest indoor snow park in the sultanate.

“The tourism and retail sectors are integral to Oman’s economy and are poised to drive economic growth and contribute to diversification in the country,” said Ghaith Shocair, Majid Al Futtaim Shopping Malls CEO.

“By developing Mall of Oman, we continue to contribute to the growth of the local tourism industry and enable job creation for residents both during and post construction.

“A development project of this size and scope is beneficial to Oman’s citizens and residents and will positively contribute to economic and social development in the sultanate.”

Majid Al Futtaim is also spending $4 billion on shopping centres in Saudi Arabia, as the company continues its expansion to existing and new markets.

Meanwhile, shopping malls in Dubai and the UAE are turning to technology and new experiences as people increasingly use internet shopping.
