MSC Cruises has welcomed the MSC Seascape to its fleet, and with it a unique robotic thrill ride called Robotron.

Providing an interactive ride experience, Robotron was developed by JRA – part of RWS Entertainment Group. The robotic arm for Robotron was built by German robotic manufacturer KUKA.

According to a press release, Robotron is a coaster-style ride featuring personalised music and lighting. It is the first of its kind for a cruise line.

Riders use a pre-ride touchscreen to choose what they want to listen to as they fly at nearly 175 feet above the sea. The tracks were picked by JRA to enhance the experience. Riders can also select their preferred thrill level.

“Our latest flagship will serve as a great representation for all that we stand for at MSC Cruises, including sustainability, groundbreaking technology and modern design combined with an immersive and enriching guest experience delivered with European flair,” said Rubén Rodríguez, president of MSC Cruises USA.

“Our guests will enjoy all of these wonderful amenities when she begins her sailings from Miami after the naming ceremony.”

In addition, MSC Seascape features two new virtual reality (VR) experiences, as well as new entertainment. It has 11 dining venues, 19 bars and lounges and six swimming pools.

Royal Caribbean has also unveiled its latest ship, Icon of the Seas, which will offer the largest water park at sea and the tallest drop slide at sea.

Disney Wish, the fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, set sail on 14 July.  Highlights include the first-ever Disney attraction at sea, Disney’s only Star Wars lounge for adults, and a Frozen-themed theatrical dining experience.

It also boasts Avengers: Quantum Encounter, the company’s most ambitious dining experience ever, and Star Wars: Cargo Bay, the first attraction of its kind.
