Blackpool Pleasure Beach in the UK is set to open a new ride, according to a new document listed on Companies House.
First reported by the Blackpool Gazette, the document reveals a loan agreement with NatWest bank for an Intamin Gyro Swing at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
Intamin, a creator of record-breaking amusement rides, provides its Gyro Swing in 32-seat or 40-seat gondolas. The manufacturer says its Gyro Swing boasts the most powerful drive system on the market, and offers feelings of complete weightlessness at the top.
Currently, there is just one Gyro Swing in the UK – Drayton Manor’s Maelstrom. Others can be found at parks including Liseberg in Sweden and Lotte World in South Korea.
Opened in 2002, Maelstrom at Drayton Manor is a “stomach-churning, head-turning gyro swing that will have thrillseekers on the edge of their seats”, according to the park.
“You’ll face outwards as you’re raised into the sky, gaining massive height with every arc before you plunge towards the ground. But that’s not all – you’ll also rotate a full 360 degrees as you fly, sending you into the heart of the maelstrom,” says Drayton Manor.
It is unknown when new Gyro Swing at Blackpool Pleasure Beach will open, or where it will be located inside the destination.
Last year, Blackpool Pleasure Beach celebrated the Big Dipper’s 100th anniversary after giving the iconic wooden coaster a makeover.
New experiences at Blackpool Pleasure Beach
Blackpool Pleasure Beach first opened in 1896. It is now home to world-class attractions, including the Big One, which was the UK’s tallest roller coaster until Thorpe Park opened Hyperia this year.
Highlights also include the UK’s only Nickelodeon Land, and the award-winning Valhalla dark ride, which reopened in 2023 after a £4 million refurbishment.
The new ride “offers a totally new immersive experience that will leave riders eager to return”, said Amanda Thompson OBE, CEO of Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
