California’s Great America in Santa Clara could close after the 2027 operating season, Six Flags officials have confirmed.

Via a report in the Orange County Register, Six Flags’ chief financial officer Brian Witherow said during a recent investor meeting that the park could close after the 2027 season if the company doesn’t extend its lease.

“Unless we decide to extend, and exercise one of our options to extend that lease, that park’s last year without that extension would be after the ’27 season,” Witherow said.

California’s Great America was formerly operated by Cedar Fair, until the company merged with Six Flags in 2024 in an $8 billion deal.

In 2022, Cedar Fair sold the land beneath California’s Great America to Prologis, a Bay Area-based logistics real estate company, with plans to close the park within 11 years.

Cedar Fair agreed to lease back the theme park from Prologis for 6 to 11 years. The six-year lease was set to end on 30 June 2028, with an option to extend it by an additional five years to 2033.

Earlier this year, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation announced it would close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor at the end of the 2025 season.

The company’s president, Richard Zimmerman, later said Six Flags has no plans to close any other parks.

“As it relates to future divestiture of assets, we don’t have any plans to close any additional parks at this time,” Zimmerman said.

As above, the plans to close California’s Great America were announced in 2022 before the merger took place, and are not part of the new Six Flags’ ongoing review of its portfolio.

Six Flags plans to invest around $1 billion in its parks over the next two years.
