Disney Treasure cruise ship floats in open water ahead of sea trials

The Disney Treasure,Disney Cruise Line's latest ship,has floated out to open water for the first time as it prepares to set sail in December.

Disney's new vessel has started its journey from Germany's Meyer Werft shipyard to the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral in Florida.


Yesterday (18 September), the Treasure was guided by tugboat down the Ems river towards open water. Over the next few days, the ship will go through a series of tests, known as sea trials.

The latest milestone for the Disney Treasure comes after the ship floated out of the Meyer Werft shipyard last month to dock in the harbour.

The Disney Treasure will offer experiences themed to films such as Aladdin, Coco and Zootopia, as well as experiences inspired byDisney parks attractions.

These include aHaunted Mansion barand a Jungle Cruise-themed lounge. Another bar on the cruise ship is themed toThe Aristocatsand calledScat Cat Lounge.

The Treasure “will bring brand-new stories to life, blending one-of-a-kind experiences with the extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality that make every sailing so memorable”, said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line.

“As we chart a course for adventure, we’re so excited for families to discover the excitement and exploration that awaits onboard thesixth shipin the Disney Cruise Line fleet,” Siskie said.

Construction on theDisney Treasurestarted in January 2023.The ship is part of a major expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which includes the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, and a new shipto sail from Japan.

Four additional ships were announced at this year’s D23 fan event, which will bring the fleet to a total of 13.
