Under ‘DisneylandForward’ the resort will expand with more theme park lands, more retail, hotels and parking.

Disneyland Resort has unveiled plans to grow the Anaheim Resort area after the pandemic. The plans will allow the resort to create new experiences for guests.

This plan is called ‘DisneylandForward’ and seeks permission from the City of Anaheim to add new areas to the Resort.

New zoning will allow for more investment

In a statement on the new DisneylandForward website, Disney said that the “traditional” zone approach of the City of Anaheim “does not allow for the diverse, integrated experiences theme park visitors now seek” which is “severely limiting Disney’s ability to continue investing in Anaheim”.

The website makes it clear that no public funding is being sought for DisneylandForward. The plans will not seek additional square footage or hotel rooms.

Instead, the company wishes to “update our existing approvals to allow for integrated development to be located and built throughout Disney properties”.

The current zoning rules mean that new hotels must be located within the Hotel District of Disneyland Resort. Disney says that this does not fit with the integrated experience guests now expect from their stay.

Bringing new attractions and lands to Disneyland Resort

In order to attract more guests to the Disneyland Resort, DisneylandForward plans to bring new lands to the theme park. Many new expansions that are currently being built at Tokyo DisneySea could come to Disneyland.

These include a Frozen land, a Tangled area and a new Peter Pan land. New rides could include a Frozen boat ride and a Tangled ‘Snuggly Duckling’ restaurant may appear.

These expansion plans would also allow the Disneyland Resort to build attractions using the most advanced technology.

By taking inspiration from other Disney parks around the world, the LA park may build a Zootopia themed attraction that uses state-of-the-art technology to bring the story to life.

A TRON Lightcycle Run roller coaster is another possibility. This roller coaster is already a popular attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, and is currently under construction in Walt Disney World in the Magic Kingdom.

With more opportunity to create new lands, Disneyland could have a Toy Story Land with a Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster.

A new retail experience, similar to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World, is also a possibility for Disneyland.

Meanwhile, Disney executives have revealed the reopening plans for the Disneyland Resort. It could open by late April under new plans. The attractions has been closed since the pandemic forced it to close in 2020.
