Disneyland’s spooky dark ride has been closed for renovations

Disneyland is preparing to reopen its Haunted Mansion attraction, which will return to the park in California in time for Halloween.

The iconic dark ride has been closed for renovations since January. Disneyland has been updating the area around the attraction, adding a new gift shop and expanding the outdoor queue.

When it reopens with a virtual queue system, the Haunted Mansion will feature its annual The Nightmare Before Christmas-themed overlay.

“Foolish mortals, you’ll be able to socialize with Sandy Claws again soon, just in time for the fall season,” Disney said in a blog post.

The updated queue for the Haunted Mansion will debut at Disneyland later. It will include new gardens inspired by Master Gracey, Madame Leota and the one-eyed cat. Each of these gardens will feature unique elements, like a water fountain and themed statuary.

The area will have a new greenhouse where the groundskeepers for the Haunted Mansion grow their plants. The new gift shop is themed to Madame Leota and located in the Haunted Mansion’s carriage house.

Disneyland’s Halloween celebrations begin on 23 August, which is presumably when the Haunted Mansion reopens. The park will also transform Main Street, U.S.A. with an assortment of pumpkins, and offer the ‘Halloween Screams’ nighttime show each evening.

At Disney California Adventure, the Headless Horseman statue will return to Buena Vista Street, while Radiator Springs in Cars Land will become Radiator Screams. Also, the new ‘Mickey’s Trick and Treat’ show is debuting.

‘Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party’ is back at Disney California Adventure from 25 August, and the ‘Plaza de la Familia’ experience returns on 23 August.

In more news, the Disney Treasure cruise ship will boast the first-ever Haunted Mansion-themed bar. There will be creepy cocktails, exclusive products, themed decor, and characters from the Disney parks attraction.
