Gardaland Resort is set to become the world’s first theme park to feature a Jumanji-themed ride.

Sony Pictures and Gardaland Resort in Italy have announced that Gardaland will become the first theme park in the world to boast a Jumanji ride, called Jumanji – The Adventure.

Inspired by Sony Pictures’ $2bn film franchise, Jumanji – The Adventure will be a family-friendly dark ride. It is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2022 season.

“Gardaland continues on the winning path of licensing agreements with leading global brands,” said Aldo Maria Vigevani, CEO of Gardaland.

“The global importance of the Jumanji brand will surely contribute to further reinforcing Gardaland Resort’s reputation as a top tourist destination in Europe and place it among the market leaders for fun attractions.”

“Synonymous with adventure, fantasy, fun, action, play and imagination, Jumanji blends seamlessly with Gardaland’s founding values,” he added.

Jumanji – The Adventure will transport Gardaland guests to a Jumanji-themed world where they travel through pitfalls, surprises and threats in the jungle.

“Adding many new elements, fans will be transported far beyond their imagination, deep into the jungles of Jumanji,” said Jeffrey Godsick, EVP of global partnerships and brand management and head of LBE at Sony Pictures.

“The team at Gardaland are top-notch creatives and storytellers who have designed an immersive experience that expands on the world created by the films.”

Jumanji is Sony Pictures’ biggest wholly-owned film franchise of all time. The original Robin Williams film made its debut back in 1995 and was followed by Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019).

Gardaland Resort, part of Merlin Entertainments, is home to Gardaland Park, Legoland Water Park, SEA LIFE Aquarium and three hotels – Gardaland Hotel, Gardaland Adventure Hotel and Gardaland Magic Hotel.

Europe’s first Legoland Water Park opened at Gardaland Resort earlier this year. The aquatic attraction is home to millions of Lego bricks, interactive water games and colourful slides.
