Huis Ten Bosch, a Dutch-inspired theme park in Sasebo, Nagasaki, is expected to be sold for 90 billion yen ($657 million).
Per the Japan Times, the sale price of Huis Ten Bosch is believed to be approximately 90 billion yen. Japanese travel conglomerate H.I.S. is in talks with companies including Hong Kong-based investment firm PAG.
Huis Ten Bosch is operated by Huis Ten Bosch Co, a subsidiary of H.I.S. The company owns the majority of the park, with the rest owned by five firms. These include the Kyushu Railway Company and Kyushu Electric Power.
H.I.S. aims to reach an agreement on the deal with PAG by the end of August, Nikkei reports.
Japan’s largest theme park
Huis Ten Bosch is Japan’s largest theme park, covering an area of around 152 hectares. According to reports, H.I.S. is hoping to improve its financial situation post-pandemic.
Casinos Austria International was recently chosen to develop and operate one of Japan’s first integrated resorts on 31 hectares at Huis Ten Bosch.
“By passing this milestone in the award process in Japan, Casinos Austria International has once again demonstrated the kind of excellent reputation that the company enjoys abroad,” said Casinos Austria CEO Bettina Glatz-Kremsner.
“We picked the company because it gives us the best prospects for turning our plan into a reality,” a prefectural official said.
Ghibli Park, the first-ever theme park dedicated to animation company Studio Ghibli, is set to open its first themed lands on 1 November in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture.
