Thorpe Park “unable to commit to reopening Hyperia” before 8 June

Thorpe Park’s new Hyperia ride, the UK’s fastest and tallest coaster, closed one day after opening and could remain shut until 8 June.

Originally, the coaster was expected to be closed until at least today (29 May). Now, Thorpe Park has said in a statement: “As you may have already seen, Hyperia is currently unavailable.

“Despite our best efforts we are unable to commit to reopening Hyperia before Saturday 8th June.”

Manufactured by Mack Rides, Hyperia reaches a maximum height of 236 feet and speeds of more than 80 mph.

For just one day, Hyperia replaced Thorpe Park’s Stealth as the UK’s fastest coaster, and Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s The Big One as the UK’s tallest.

In the statement, Thorpe Park added: “We will continue to do everything in our power to open the ride earlier and will ensure all the latest updates are provided via our socials and website. We are really sorry for the disappointment we know this will cause.”

Hyperia soft launched at Thorpe Park on 23 May, with the opening celebrations continuing the following day. The attraction was then closed on 25 May “due to unforeseen circumstances”.

Thorpe Park said at the time that it was “working hard to reopen Hyperia as soon as possible”.

UK’s fastest and tallest coaster

Hyperia is Thorpe Park’s eighth coaster. It joins other coasters like Swarm, Colossus, Saw – The Ride, and Nemesis Inferno.

The final piece of track for Hyperia was installed in March. To lift the 92nd piece into place, the team at Thorpe Park used a 500-tonne crane. The coaster’s assembly process took more than 5,292 man hours.

Earlier this year, Nemesis Reborn opened at Alton Towers following an 18-month transformation. Guests waited more than four hours to ride the new coaster.
