Original Nemesis roller coaster has a devoted global fanbase

Nemesis Reborn has officially opened at Alton Towers after an 18-month transformation, with excited guests waiting more than four hours to ride the new coaster.

Fans of the iconic coaster travelled from across the UK to be the first to experience the updated Nemesis attraction, which offers a g-force of 3.5 and top speeds of 50 mph.

During the past 18 months, Alton Towers has replaced the coaster’s 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track, which is now covered with red veins.

Also, Nemesis Reborn features new storytelling elements and a redesigned mythical beast, brought to life through state-of-the-art audiovisual (AV) technology.

Additionally, the ride station has been completely updated to look like the inside of the Nemesis beast, complete with bones, flesh and illuminating veins.

The first guest to ride Nemesis Reborn was 18-year-old Eden Smith, who said: “It was so cool. I really loved going through the mist. The theming is so amazing.”

Bianca Sammut, divisional director at Alton Towers, said: “Today marks the culmination of an extraordinary project – to transform Britain’s most-loved roller coaster for a new generation.

“The original Nemesis roller coaster has been cherished for three decades, making this project a real labour of love for everyone involved in it.”

Nemesis Reborn opened on Saturday (16 March). Many visitors came dressed in homemade Nemesis-themed attire, and the wait time for the new ride quickly reached more than four hours.

“Today we’ve seen an extraordinary buzz across the park as we finally unveiled Nemesis Reborn to guests,” Sammut added.

“Judging by their reaction we’re confident we’ve created a worthy successor that will captivate thrill-seekers for generations to come.”

Opened in 1994 as Europe‘s first inverted coaster, the original Nemesis went on to develop a devoted global fanbase. The Nemesis Reborn ride experience still includes four full inversions, corkscrews and drops.

Before closing in November 2022, Nemesis travelled more than 800,000 miles and carried over 52 million riders.
