A new ride based on the 2015 Jurassic World film is coming to Universal Studios Hollywood in 2019, replacing the ageing Jurassic Park – The Ride.
The existing water ride is based on the original 1993 Jurassic Park film directed by Steven Spielberg and debuted at Universal Studios Hollywood in 1996. At the time it was a cutting-edge attraction developed by aerospace engineers and palaeontologists using new principles of hydraulic physics, mechanics and robotics. It features massive dinosaurs with some as tall as five-story buildings.
Details of the new attraction are being kept under wraps. However, according to a release from Universal Studios Hollywood, the Jurassic World Ride will also be a technologically-advanced attraction. It will “draw from favourite elements of the original” as part of a next-generation reimagining of the thrill ride.
“With the introduction of never-before-seen dinosaurs, enhanced storytelling, lush scenic design, an entirely new colour scheme and uncompromised state-of-the-art technology, the ride will capture elements never experienced within a theme park,” the release states.

Jurassic Park – The Ride will close on 3 September 2018 in order for work to commence. Universal Studios Hollywood has launched a “Countdown to the Extinction” campaign – inviting guests from around the world to experience the ride before its transformation into the Jurassic World Ride.
The Jurassic Cove restaurant and Jurassic Outfitters retail store also will close with the attraction and reopen with the new experience in 2019.
