TORCHLIGHT Dark Ride Concept Katapult Simworx

Katapult, the international guest experience design agency, and Simworx, the dynamic media attractions specialist, announced a new dark ride experience at this week’s blooloop V-Expo.

Katapult and Simworx are proud to present TORCHLIGHT, a gripping new horror dark ride experience. TORCHLIGHT: Search of the Forest transports visitors to some spooky woods, where they must find out who, or what, is behind the disappearance of dozens of people.

The narrative, concept and guest experience has been developed by Katapult and combined with Simworx’s Automated Guided Vehicle technology (AGV). It is a unique experience, thanks to the trackless, omni-directional ride system with a 3 degrees of freedom motion base and acceleration of up to 2.4 metres per second.

Pushing the boundaries of the dark ride concept

“We are really excited about what we’ve been able to achieve already with Simworx,” says Chief Creative Officer at Katapult, Phil Higgins. “TORCHLIGHT is just one of two ride concepts that we have been working on to maximise the potential of the class-leading AGV technology.”

“This project has also allowed us to experiment and push the boundaries in terms of what a dark ride can offer. We’ve put considerable effort into developing ideas for the ride’s queue line, car design, soundscape and photo opportunity too, to develop a hyper-realistic experience that guests continue to gravitate back to for more.”

Simworx CEO, Terry Monkton, adds, “As a dark ride concept, TORCHLIGHT ticks all the boxes of creating an exciting, immersive and globally unique experience. We have been really impressed with Katapult who have spent considerable time with our technical team to fully understand the unique performance capabilities of our AGV and they have subsequently developed a fabulous dark ride concept that fully utilises these.”

“We look forward to working with Katapult, to showcase our combined design and manufacturing capabilities not just on this project but also in delivering live projects in the future.”

More information on the new dark ride attraction will be revealed to a VIP audience later this month. To join the VIP list, click here.

Recently, Katapult designed a new playground for Findern Primary School in Derbyshire, UK. As the winner of its Helping Hands competition 2020, the school is now home to a brand new playground, complete with a climbing frame, multi-sensory garden, creativity stations and breakout areas for storytime.

Meanwhile, Simworx announced an exclusive partnership with Engage Interactive as its sales and distribution partner for Saudi Arabia, as it continues to expand in the region.
