Representative of Disney in China Signs Unauthorised Deals Across Country

The New York Times reports that Meng Dekai, a former Disney executive in China, has signeddeals across the country without authority.

Mr Mengis reported to have signed deals with local governments for Disney related projects including one in Hefei in 2013 to build a $1.3 billion Disney cultural park as well as other developments in Ningbo andZhengzhou.

The Walt Disney Company has said that Mr Meng, who was a director of special projects, is no longer working for them after investigating the bogus deals.

The report highlights the risks inherent in operating in China, and shows that even the biggest and best can fall victim to unscrupulous partners. The result of Mr Meng's activites issaid to have been some confusion locally over Disney's plans in China.
