Merlin will install additional EV charging points at its global attractions in the future

Merlin Entertainments is installing electric vehicle (EV) charging points at five sites across the UK in partnership with Raw Charging.

During the 2023 summer season, the new EV charging points are being added to Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures, Alton Towers, Warwick Castle and Legoland Windsor.

Merlin, which operates more than 140 attractions in 24 countries, will install additional EV charging points at its sites in the future.

Sustainability sits at the heart of Merlin”

The project “is exactly what we as an organisation should be doing to help make lower emission solutions accessible for the public”, said Dare Ilori, group sustainability director at Merlin.

To use the 22kW charging points, drivers can download an app or pay using an RFID card. The charging points can be used by all electric vehicles, with tethered and socketed units in place.

Sustainability sits at the heart of Merlin Entertainments and as we continually grow and expand our attractions, we know that reducing carbon emissions is the right thing to do to protect our planet,” Ilori added.

“We’re making headway in reducing our annual worldwide carbon emissions and by taking steps like this in installing EV charging hubs across the UK, we are taking action to help pave the way for a greener future and adding to the experience for our guests each year.”

For the second year running, Merlin has also teamed up with Coca-Cola to offer VIP experiences at the former’s UK attractions in exchange for empty plastic bottles.

“Plastic waste remains a long-term environmental issue and we are committed to raising awareness and helping establish solutions to address it,” said Ilori.
