Shanghai Disneyland‘s eighth themed land immerses guests in a mammalian metropolis

Shanghai Disneyland is now home to the world’s first Zootopia-themed land, an immersive mammalian metropolis with a new trackless dark ride.

Based on the 2016 Walt Disney Animation Studios film, the Zootopia land opened in a ceremony attended by Shanghai city officials and senior leaders from Disney and Shanghai Shendi Group.

“For 100 years, the Walt Disney Company has been entertaining, thrilling, and inspiring audiences and fans through exceptional storytelling that transcends generations and geographies,” said Bob Iger, Disney CEO.

“Our popular Zootopia film continues to delight fans across the globe, especially in China, and we’re excited to give guests at Shanghai Disney Resort the chance to interact with the stories and characters they love in innovative new ways when they visit this spectacular new land.”

Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks division, added: “Storytelling is what we do best… and our cast and Walt Disney Imagineers excel at bringing favorite stories to life in a way only Disney can.

Zootopia is a place where the outside world falls away as you enter an immersive, story-driven environment brimming with rich detail and fun everywhere you look.”

During the opening ceremony at Shanghai Disneyland, D’Amaro was interrupted by an untethered, robotic Duke Weaselton that showcased Disney’s cutting-edge robotics technology.

The eighth themed land at Shanghai Disneyland, immerses visitors in a mammalian metropolis. The land includes a new trackless dark ride called Zootopia Hot Pursuit.

Zootopia also offers a new interactive character experience, innovative entertainment, and themed retail and F&B.

Yang Jinsong, chairman of Shanghai Shendi Group, said: “We thank all the creative, design, construction and development teams of this new project who have worked together for years to create this incredible new land.”
