Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park opened to the public on 16 November after five years of development and construction. The $795 million theme park was designed by Legacy Entertainment.
Situated near the city’s Dishui Lake in the Pudong New Area, the theme park has five themed areas – Merman Bay, Polar Town, Seabed Area, Ocean Tribe and Ice & Snow Kingdom – as well as two cinemas, seven main pavilions, three show venues, thrill and family rides (including the world’s longest rapids ride. There is also a mermaid show.
The 73-acre theme park is expected to attract between 5 and 6 million visitors a year.
Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park features more than 30,000 polar marine creatures of around 300 species, including dolphins, sea lions and belugas.
The theme park includes a resort hotel with themed rooms.
