Hyperia will reach a top height of 236 feet and a maximum speed of more than 80 mph

Thorpe Park has shared a construction update for its new Hyperia attraction, which will be the UK’s fastest and tallest roller coaster when it opens in 2024.

The theme park submitted plans for its Hyperia coaster, then known as ‘Project Exodus’, in December 2021. The name of the coaster was announced last month.

In a new blog post, Thorpe Park said Hyperia is “growing into the majestic goddess we know she will be”. At the Hyperia built site, the framework for the ride station is now in place, as is the framework for the coaster’s maintenance station.

Additionally, construction on the base of the 236-foot-tall lift hill has started, and the ride structure has been going vertical over the past few weeks.

Work on Hyperia‘s final airtime hill and break run has started, and construction on the splashdown element is underway.

Last month, Thorpe Park said the new coaster is “themed around our fearless goddess ‘Hyperia’ – her story is yet to be told”.

The park said the title Hyperia “has a double meaning” as it is the name of “our fearless goddess, plus it is indeed a hypercoaster”.

Hypercoasters are full-circuit roller coasters built for height, speed and airtime with a height or drop measuring greater than 200 feet.

Hyperia will reach a top height of 236 feet and a maximum speed of more than 80 mph. It will take the title of the UK’s tallest coaster from The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which stands at 230 feet. Stealth at Thorpe Park is currently the UK’s fastest coaster.

Elsewhere, Chessington World of Adventures has said its proposed water park would be an “affordable” visitor attraction and the first of its kind within the M25.

Chessington and Thorpe Park are owned by Merlin Entertainments.
