Disney Imagineers have developed a new ride system

Walt Disney Imagineering is showing off the new Peter Pan ride at Tokyo DisneySea‘s new Fantasy Springs port.

Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure opens on 6 June with the rest of Fantasy Springs, which features three new areas inspired by Frozen, Tangled and Peter Pan. These are: Frozen Kingdom, Rapunzel’s Forest and Peter Pan’s Never Land.

For the Peter Pan attraction, Disney Imagineers have developed a new ride system, one that will allow guests to fly over Never Land.

The ride system blends ride vehicle motion with show elements and new animation, including a groundbreaking projection system.

Imagineers explored various ride systems before choosing a motion base to create the illusion of flying through the air.

“This innovative approach, combined with meticulous attention to detail, resulted in a full six degrees of freedom motion base, a turntable and track system that delivers an unparalleled sense of flight and immersion,” Disney said in a blog post.

As for the solid state projection system, this allows a single lens to produce incredible 3D effects. “This, coupled with meticulous testing and integration of practical sets, ensured a seamless blend of physical and digital elements, enhancing the overall immersive experience,” Disney added.

On Peter Pan’s Never Land Adventure, guests join Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the Lost Kids as they attempt to rescue John from Captain Hook and his band of pirates.

Aboard a boat sprinkled with pixie dust by Tinker Bell, riders will fly into the sky and see iconic scenes and characters from the 1953 film Peter Pan.

Fantasy Springs includes three other attractions – Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey, Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, and Fairy Tinker Bell’s Busy Buggies.

Tokyo Disney’s operator Oriental Land Company has invested $2.2 billion in Fantasy Springs, which will expand Tokyo DisneySea by around 20 percent.
