Comcast has shared a report detailing the positive economic impact of Universal Orlando and the additional benefit that Epic Universe will have.
Epic Universe opens on 22 May as the first major theme park to debut in the US in the last 25 years.
A 750-acre development, Epic Universe is Universal‘s most ambitious and most technologically advanced park to date.
It boasts five immersive worlds, three hotels, and more than 50 attractions, dining and retail experiences.
The creation of Epic Universe has stimulated economic growth and generated thousands of jobs across the US, Comcast said in a press release.
To perform an economic impact analysis, Universal Destinations & Experiences engaged Sean Snaith, a nationally recognised economist and director of the University of Central Florida’s Institute for Economic Forecasting.
This report explores the effect of Universal Orlando on the local and national economy, and the additional impact Epic Universe will have in its first year of operations and beyond.
Epic Universe: $11bn of economic impact
Starting with Universal Orlando: the resort generated $44 billion in economic impact between 2019 and 2023.
Universal’s direct investment in Epic Universe has resulted in $11bn of economic impact across the US, and in its first year of operation, the park is expected to generate $2bn for the state of Florida alone.
As for jobs, Universal Orlando generated 94,000 jobs across the country in 2023, and 65,000 jobs were created in the US by the construction of Epic Universe.
Additionally, Epic Universe is projected to create more than 17,500 new jobs across the country in its first year of opening.
Universal Destinations & Experiences has been extremely busy. Beyond Epic Universe, the company is building new parks and attractions in Nevada, Texas and even the UK.
Between 2018 and 2024, Comcast has invested more than $10bn in new and existing Universal destinations.
It has also generated more than 2,500 construction jobs for the new Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, plus hundreds more for Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas.
