Universal teases new Harry Potter ride

News

Universal Orlando has shared the first promotional imagery for a new Harry Potter roller coaster opening in 2019.

The image was shared on Monday on Pottermore and says “a magical new adventure is coming in 2019”. It shows a red coaster track curving over a forest and past Hogwarts Castle.

The new coaster was first announced in a blog post by Universal on July 24. The post promised the ride experience would be something new, and take guests deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.

“This ride is going to redefine the category and transport you to thrilling places, drawing you into even more exciting adventures within the wizarding world,” said the Universal Orlando’s official parks blog.

End of Dragon Challenge

Dragon Challenge will close on September 4th.  The coaster was built by Bollinger & Mabillard.  It is a two-sided, intertwined and inverted ride, originally called Duelling Dragons.  As such it was a key ride at the opening of Islands of Adventure in 1999.  When Wizarding World opened in 2010 the new area absorbed part of the Lost Continent Land, including the ride.  The coaster’s name was changed at the same time.
