ZIERER, a leading manufacturer of family-friendly amusement rides, is celebrating the grand opening of the first Drifter at Särkänniemi, Finland.
This innovative ride is an interactive carousel, based on the firm’s popular Jet Skis attraction. It is all about driving fun, action, and adrenaline, promising a memorable experience for young and old. Once the lever is engaged, the wheels can adjust freely, creating the thrilling drifting effect.
In specially designed rally vehicles, up to 18 people can race together in nine gondolas, bringing their excitement to the track. Passengers can activate drifts with a lever, giving them control over the ride’s dynamics. Action-thrill-packed rides and authentic motorsport vibes excite guests of all ages, providing an interactive and enjoyable experience.
With an overall ground diameter of approximately 21 metres (68.9 feet), the Drifter is not only ideal for large theme parks but also offers an opportunity for smaller parks to provide fun for the whole family.
Four new Drifters
New installations constructed for the first time always pose unique challenges, which the ZIERER team effectively overcame. Additionally, the collaboration with Särkänniemi was notably professional and smooth.
Signing four contracts for the Drifter since the product launch is highly significant for the company. It demonstrates its continued ability to launch new products successfully. A project like this in Särkänniemi serves as an excellent reference and a valuable addition to ZIERER’s portfolio.
The Drifter showcases several of ZIERER’s key strengths: family-friendly rides, excellent theming options, and exciting experiences for all ages.
“Drifter – or as we call it here at Särkänniemi, Drifti – has quickly become a favorite ride for many during its first summer of operation. Its location right at the main gate has enhanced the arrival experience. The collaboration with ZIERER has been smooth from start to finish, and we are extremely happy with both the process and the ride,” says Särkänniemi’s CEO, Mikko Hautasaari.
Baumann Andreas, project manager at ZIERER, adds:
“Even when you plan every detail meticulously, building the very first unit is always something special — it brings unique challenges, surprises, and a real sense of accomplishment. This project was no exception. Seeing it come to life was an incredible experience and a strong reminder that hard work truly pays off.
“I’m proud of what our team achieved — the result is a fantastic ride with an outstanding driving feel.”
The ZIERER team will be at IAAPA Europe 2025 in Barcelona next month. The conference takes place from 22 – 26 September, with the show floor open from 23 – 25 September, and the firm can be found at booth #1-425. Attendees can book a meeting with the ZIERER team by contacting [email protected].
Earlier this year, ZIERER shared details of its project to replace the ageing Medium Tivoli Coaster at Tobu Zoo in Japan with an identical replica.
