Senior Vice President of Community Engagement & Social Responsibility

The Florida Aquarium

Tony Rokita became senior vice president of community engagement and social responsibility at the Florida Aquarium in 2022. In this role, he works across departments to enhance conservation efforts, education programmes, career recruitment, and community outreach.

“Since assuming his role in 2022, Tony has been instrumental in advancing the Florida Aquarium’s mission by fostering authentic connections with the diverse Tampa Bay community and embedding social impact at the core of the organization’s work,” said one nominator.

“His commitment to building meaningful community partnerships ensures that outreach efforts are inclusive, culturally relevant, and impactful, helping to broaden access to conservation education and inspire a wider audience to become active environmental stewards.”

Before joining the Florida Aquarium, Rokita spent 32 seasons with the Chicago Bulls in various leadership capacities, notably leading the alumni relations, community relations, and player programme departments.

And beyond his work at the aquarium, Rokita is a member of the executive committee for the Aquarium Conservation Partnership (ACP). In this role, he contributes to guiding collaborative efforts among aquariums across North America, strengthening the collective voice and impact of the industry on conservation, sustainability, and social responsibility.

“Rokita’s dedication to intertwining conservation with social responsibility exemplifies how modern aquariums can serve as vital community institutions – educating, empowering, and inspiring action while fostering social equity and environmental stewardship. His leadership enhances not only the Florida Aquarium’s outreach and impact but also advances the broader zoo and aquarium field’s commitment to creating positive change,” the nominator added.

“His efforts continue to shape a more inclusive, impactful, and socially conscious future for aquariums and the communities they serve.”
