The Toronto Zoo is inviting bids for consulting services to create a long-term plan for how the zoo should expand, evolve, and operate in the future.

The zoo has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for services for its 2027 campus plan project, which should build on its existing strategy, the Guardians of the Wild plan.

The Toronto Zoo said it aims to "create a comprehensive, systematic, community-based approach to the zoo's development and evolution over a long-term period".

The long-term plan should reflect the zoo's broader conservation and educational objectives, and help it to "fulfil its mission to connect people, animals, conservation science and traditional knowledge to fight extinction".

"This will be a plan where innovation meets community and science sparks possibility," the Toronto Zoo said.

"We are seeking ideas, insights, and passion that can help design a blueprint that inspires progress, strengthens connections, and drives real-world impact."

The zoo is inviting bids for services in areas including landscaping and forestry; recreation and education; event planning; environmental goods; facilities, redevelopment, construction, architectural and engineering; and animals and plants.

The deadline to apply for the project is 12pm EST on 28 January.

Speaking to blooloop in 2024 about the Guardians of the Wild plan, the Toronto Zoo's CEO Dolf DeJong said: "When we think about our vision for a world where wildlife and wild spaces thrive, that next vision will include people in that story."

Last year, the Toronto Zoo expanded its reusable packaging initiative in a bid to limit the environmental impact of its 1.3 million annual visitors.
