Amsterdam based exhibition design bureau NorthernLight signs Science Centre contract in Macao

News

The brand new Macao Science Centre is due to open December 2009. NorthernLight has won the design contest for the design of three galleries for this prestigious project. The building was designed by I.M. Pei and is on reclaimed land in the South China Sea. The galleries will focus on various ecological topics such as the devastating powers of our Earth and are interactive and dramatic.

NorthernLight has been very successful in the Far East over the last years. Recently, they finished the design for a 6400 m2 exhibition in the New China Science and Technology Museum in Beijing. Peter Slavenburg, one of the founders of NorthernLight, has just returned from living in Beijing for half a year. “It’s great to work in China, ” he says. “The project team in Beijing was very professional, forcing us to meet the highest quality standards and stimulating our imagination and inventiveness. I am very proud on the result and I expect to say the same after finishing Macao.”

Macao is one of the two special administrative regions of the People’s Republic of China. Welcoming about 20 million visitors on an annual base, it is an important tourist attraction in South East Asia.
