For the second year in a row, the Minnesota Zoo attracted more than 1.3 million guests, exceeding its attendance goal by more than 11 percent. A total of 1, 338, 581 million guests visited the Minnesota Zoo this past fiscal year, which ended on June 30. This was the secondhighest yearly attendance in the Zoo’s 32-year history.

Contributing to the Zoo’s success this past fiscal year (July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010) was the opening last summer of the nature-based play area Woodland Adventure, favorable spring weather and record attendance for the always-popular Farm Babies event in April, continued interest in the award-winning Russia’s Grizzly Coast exhibit (opened in 2008), and a new exhibit opening on Memorial Day weekend: Faces of the African Forest. In addition, the year saw successful fund-raising and legislative support that has the Zoo poised for continued growth.

“With the recent groundbreaking for the first phase of our ambitious ‘Heart of the Zoo’ project, the Zoo is looking forward to continued success and even greater positive impact on our guests, the animals in our care and the natural world we are dedicated to celebrating and protecting, ” said Minnesota Zoo Director/CEO Lee Ehmke.

The Minnesota Zoo is located in Apple Valley, just minutes south of Mall of America. For more information, call 952.431.9500 or visit mnzoo.org. The Minnesota Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and an institutional member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
