Simworx announces 4D effects theatre for Drayton Manor Theme Park

News

UK based 4D effects theatre and simulation attraction specialist Simworx has announced the sale of a 4D effects theatre to Drayton Manor Theme Park, one of the largest parks in the UK.

Due to open at the beginning of the 2009 season, the new, 152-seat theatre will be housed in an existing building which Drayton Manor will adapt for the purpose. Simworx will provide a full turnkey project which will include a Christie high definition projection system to present the 3D imagery, along with special effects lighting and the company’s Dimensions 4D effects seats.

In addition to the familiar seat movements, numerous special effects will be incorporated into the attraction to help create an unforgettable experience, these including water spray, air blast, leg ticklers, aroma, low smoke and bubbles, while among the films due to be shown will be the Simworx distributed, Red Star Studios produced, Curse of Skull Rock, winner of the Best Children’s Animated Film award at the prestigious Stuttgart Film Festival.

Installation of the new theatre is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2009 and commenting on the sale, Simworx Managing Director Terry Monkton said: “I am delighted to be able to announce that Drayton Manor will be opening one of our 4D effects theatres for the 2009 season. I believe it is an excellent attraction for the park’s target market and I’m sure it will be popular with all age groups, as has been the case with similar theatres elsewhere. I’m confident it will be a very successful addition to the wide range of attractions already on offer.”

Also happy to be doing business with Simworx was Drayton Manor’s Edward Pawley, general manager park operations, who commented: “We’ve been thinking about a 4D theatre for a long time and in this case the right deal came along at the right time. Also, Simworx is just down the road from us, about an hour away, so we were pleased to be able to work with a UK company and a local one.

“We wanted a really good, indoor, family attraction, ” he continued, “and felt a 4D effects theatre would be ideal. It also allows us to increase the capacity of the existing building we are using for the attraction which was another consideration. We should be able to put over 600 people an hour through the theatre.”
