The Preston Palace Hotel in Alemo, Holland used polyurethane theming products from ITW Irathane Futura ten years ago to surround a 43, 000 sq. ft. swimming pool with a very unusual mock tropical rainforest, rocky coves and exotic animals.
Earlier this year, the installation was inspected and was found to be as good as the day it was built.
The indoor park was the brainchild of Henry van der Most and this Polynesian-style tropical paradise is complete with erupting volcano, tropical fish, exotic animals foundations and striking pre-recorded jungle sounds.
The products used to create this state-of-the-art swimming pool were the Futura Rock range of products together with a special Styrothane hard-coat. These high performance two-part polyurethane materials are from the company’s well proven ranges and give exceptional performance. The Futura Rock products are fast-setting, and combine a balance of stiffness with high impact resistance and rapid de-mould time for fast turnaround. They give excellent reproduction of rock, coral and other textures.
The spray application is such that multiple coats can be applied in rapid succession to build up structure as required.
The special hard-coat Styrothane 5321FR is an aromatic polyurethane specifically designed to provide high impact damage resistance for exposed polystyrene (EPS) and polyurethane foam. The reactivity is controlled to avoid large exotherm and damage to EPS. Various systems can meet the following French NFP 92-501 Class M2 and BS476 Part 7 Class 1 635 test criteria.
