World Expos:Top press official calls for better Expo coverage

News

A TOP Chinese press official required all Chinese media to proactively participate in covering World Expo 2010 and present this global event with authentic, accurate and rich news reports.

Good media reporting is crucial to the success of the World Expo 2010’s preparation and operation, Cai Minzhao, vice director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said in Shanghai during a meeting of Chinese news organizations focusing on Expo.

All news outlets in China should fully understand the importance of Expo, he said. Expo Shanghai is hosted by China, not by Shanghai alone, so it’s the whole country’s responsibility to ensure its success, Cai added.

Chinese media should contribute to the “successful, splendid and unforgettable” Expo by providing “high-standard, high-quality and high-efficiency” news reporting, Cai said.

He said as the opening of Expo is coming closer, media should increase their coverage on this event and attract people’s attention onto this topic across the country. The media should present a positive image of the Expo and avoid mistakes in its reporting. He also required the Expo organizers to offer professional and “considerate” services to journalists.
