Universal Destinations & Experiences has established a temporary headquarters close to its planned UK theme park in Bedfordshire.

Via a BBC report, the company has taken over the top floor of Bedford Borough Hall on Cauldwell Street, which is already home to Bedford Borough Council.

Universal Destinations & Experiences said in a statement: "We look forward to continuing to work with Bedford Borough Council's leadership and officers and are appreciative of their ongoing support as we establish a temporary home for the Universal team."

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton, said "hundreds of people" would be based in the building, working on "top secret" plans for Universal's first UK destination.

"I'm really excited to see that they actually made the decision to have their offices in Bedford and that's a great thing for our town," he said.

Planning permission for the new park, which is expected to open in 2031, was granted in December.

The project will provide a £50 billion economic benefit, also creating around 20,000 jobs during the construction period and 8,000 permanent positions once operational.

It is expected to attract more than eight million visitors annually.

Wootton added that the top floor of Bedford Borough Hall had been cleared out and was being fitted out to accommodate the Universal UK team.

In December, Wootton said the project's approval was "one of the proudest moments of my political life".

Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, spoke about the park's design last year.

"It's a full-blown Universal theme park with a 500-room hotel that is part of it, very much like Epic in terms of a park with a hotel," he said.

"We've created a different mix of attractions that we think will work great in the UK."
