American Wave Machines, a leading wave pool, surf park and wave technology company, has announced a project with Flatwater Companies in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The LAKE will offer world-class surfing alongside retail and entertainment facilities.

American Wave Machines is proud to be a part of this project with Flatwater Companies. The LAKE will be located near Richmond, Virginia, and will be home to 150,000 square feet of retail and entertainment space, 100,000 square feet of office space and a 170-room hotel. It will also feature over 1,000 apartments and new townhomes.

It will also offer a new world-class surf facility, PerfectSwell Richmond, thanks to American Wave Machines’ innovative technology. Permits have been secured, and construction is expected to start soon. PerfectSwell Richmond is part of Phase 1 and is likely to be completed in the autumn of 2021.

A unique new destination

“The LAKE is more than just a new development. Our vision is to create a unique destination that will cultivate greater connections and shared experiences with surfing being a key component,” says Brett Burkhart, Co-Founder and Vision Leader with Flatwater Companies.

“By partnering with AWM to create PerfectSwell Richmond, we can offer recreational surf for beginners as well as world-class surfing for elite athletes. PerfectSwell Richmond will be a global surf destination.”

Mike Lopez, AWM Senior Vice President responsible for Global Strategy adds, “We’re extremely pleased to add The LAKE to a quickly growing list of PerfectSwell surf destinations.  Having recently announced PerfectSwell® Surf Stadium Japan, scheduled to open June 2020, our vision for a global network of high-performance surf pools is materializing.”

American Wave Machines also recently announced a project with Surf Stadium Japan (SSJ), to create a PerfectSwell world-class surfing facility in Shizunami. SSJ is creating an arena-like atmosphere at the new attraction, where spectators will feel up close and personal with the action.
