Cloward H2O, an expert in aquatic design, has announced it is to provide all detailed engineering for the watercourse of a huge new outdoor development in Montgomery, Alabama.

Cloward H2O is pleased to have been chosen as part of the multimillion-dollar project. The $50 million, government-backed whitewater park and outdoor attraction is about to get underway in downtown Montgomery, Alabama.

The project includes a 25-acre central park, with rafting and kayaking opportunities provided by a man-made whitewater course. This will weave past shops, refreshment outlets and an outdoor concert facility, as well as a hotel and conference centre. The full site will be 120-acres, featuring several outdoor activities such as a climbing tower, ropes courses are more.

New whitewater course

The new park will not use any river water for its whitewater course. Cloward H2O will be providing structural, mechanical and electrical engineering for the watercourse. This will include a massive pumping station as well as water circulation and treatment. Design is expected to start this autumn and the park is aiming to open in the spring of 2022.

Other recent projects by Cloward H2O include the Sopris Splash Zone at Glenwood Hot Springs Resort in Colorado. The family-friendly attraction now includes 3 new zones –  a fast-moving river for older children and adults, a wade-in pool with waterfalls for younger members of the family to enjoy and an impressive fountain for play and show.

The company is also responsible for the upgrade of the Riversport Rapids watersports facility in Oklahoma City, which hosts an average of 2,000 individual raft rides per day. Cloward H2O worked on the original design for the project, providing engineering and mechanical systems. The company has since returned to work on improvements to the overall power efficiency and water quality management at the sports venue.
