Wevr, a creative technology company focused on creating virtual worlds and immersive spatial experiences, has revealed The Blu: Expedition Taiwan in collaboration with HTC VIVERSE and the Taiwan Ministry of Culture.
Hailed as one of the most iconic and award-winning immersive VR experiences of all time, the latest edition takes the franchise to the subtropical seas of Taiwan, one of the most vital biodiversity hotspots on the planet and home to the endangered Taiwanese white dolphin.
For the first time, The Blu allows friends and families to swim side by side in a free-roam space as they explore colourful coral reefs, navigate a shipwreck, and work together to free an entangled sea turtle.
Chiang Ching-Sung, director of the Department of Cultural and Creative Development at Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, says: "Cultural technology is becoming an important force in driving Taiwan’s content innovation and international connections.
"Centered around Taiwan’s marine ecology and culture, The Blu: Expedition Taiwan combines XR immersive technology with international content production capabilities, allowing marine conservation, local culture, and historical memory to be experienced in a more immersive and engaging way.
"The project also demonstrates the potential of Taiwan’s cultural content in cross-disciplinary adaptation and international collaboration."
Powerful, shared experience
The Blu launched over 10 years ago as one of the most pioneering VR experiences ever created, inviting visitors to travel virtually beneath the ocean's surface and discover its inhabitants, beauty, and fragility.
Since then, it has collaborated with Dr. Sylvia Earle, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, and continued to astonish, educate and resonate with audiences worldwide.

By mixing stunning visuals, emotional storytelling, and shared presence, this new edition builds on this legacy to promote greater empathy and awareness of ocean conservation and restoration.
The experience culminates in a search-and-rescue mission to save an endangered Taiwanese white dolphin. The narrative has been crafted to both astonish and evoke a connection with the ocean, with each other, and with the pressing work of regeneration.

Directed by Michal Lovecky, The Blu: Expedition Taiwan is the first in a new global series from Wevr designed to engage audiences with the world’s oceans. Further expeditions are in development and will be announced in the coming months, bringing this transformative experience to other vital marine regions worldwide.

The Blu: Expedition Taiwan is now showing at VIVELAND KW7 at Pier-2 Art Center, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Recently, Wevr collaborated with HTC VIVERSE to develop The Little Prince: A New Adventure Begins, the world’s first free-roam, location-based XR adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s much-loved tale.
