WhiteWater, a leading manufacturer of water attractions, has introduced Boomerango Boombox at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions – Wisconsin Dells, reimagining one of the world’s most recognisable water slide features.

Since its 2005 debut, the Boomerango’s dramatic drop into a near-vertical wall has made it a popular addition to new water parks. More than 300 have been installed worldwide, mostly outdoors.

The new Boomerango Boombox, known at the Kalahari venue as Zambezi Rapids, lets indoor water parks offer this feature without sacrificing valuable indoor space. Extending beyond the building envelope, the enclosed ride operates in any weather and delivers a fresh ride experience.

A new take on a popular attraction

Like the classic Boomerango, Boomerango Boombox delivers speed, height, and the true zero-G sensations only a flat wall can provide, but with a low roof that makes the ride more immersive.

Riders don’t see the wall until they reach the bottom of the drop, where the tunnel effect builds anticipation and adds surprise as the enormous wall comes into view. The low ceiling also heightens the sense of velocity, making riders feel as if they’re speeding through a cavern.

Boomerango Boombox also makes the most advanced use of translucent fibreglass, with panels lining the section before the drop and the drop itself. Its centre dome is fully translucent, letting plenty of light in.

As with the Boomerango, Boomerango Boombox can be combined with other water slide features to create a range of sensations. Zambezi Rapids combines it with a Constrictor to deliver high-banking turns.

With Boomerango Boombox’s first installation in Wisconsin, the product was engineered to withstand hot summers and extreme winters.

WhiteWater’s signature dewatering technology helps prevent freezing in cold weather, while steel connections accommodate fibreglass's predictable expansion and contraction as temperatures change. Windows at the top can be opened in summer to improve air circulation.

“As a leading brand in family leisure, Kalahari strives to bring the best experience to our guests, with both tried-and-true attractions and innovations that the world has never seen before,” says Travis Nelson, president of Kalahari Resorts & Conventions.

“And the Boomerango Boombox is the best example of both. On a scale of 1 to 10, this ride is a 12!”

Doug Smith, WhiteWater’s head of sales, adds: “Boomerango Boombox is not just a new ride for the sake of something new. It’s utilizing the world’s best ride in a different environment while making the experience even better.

"The concept goes well beyond indoor water parks; it could be an outstanding headline attraction for outdoor parks as well.”

Earlier this month, WhiteWater celebrated receiving WWA Leading Edge Awards for three projects, including Aquarabia Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.
