ZIERER, a leading manufacturer of family-friendly amusement rides, has formally launched Minifigure Speedway, a new Dueling Reverse Coaster at the Legoland Billund Resort in Denmark.

The ride began welcoming visitors at the start of the 2026 season, and follows the 2024 debut of the family coaster concept at Legoland Windsor Resort.

Adding to ZIERER's portfolio of proven, high-quality family coasters, it marks a significant new project for both Legoland Billund and the manufacturer.

Carolina Járrega, Legoland Billund project manager, says: "The collaboration with ZIERER throughout the realization of Minifigure Speedway was very positive.

"Their team was highly supportive in addressing our operational requirements during the design and construction phase.

"Also, their close cooperation during installation—monitoring and supervising the installation works—made the overall process much smoother. We always felt we were in good hands.

"Minifigure Speedway is a fantastic addition for families. It offers an experience that everyone can enjoy: it’s perfectly suited for younger guests, while still being exciting and engaging for older children.

"We hope families take away a sense of fun, competition and memorable moments together."

Multigenerational experience

With this Dueling Reverse Coaster, visitors can compete head-to-head throughout the ride thanks to two parallel tracks, each measuring around 263 metres (863 ft.) long, and an exciting, while compact, racing layout that optimises interaction and repeatability.

One of the coaster's key technical components is its forward‑ and backwards-facing ride sections. These add a further layer of fun and unpredictability to the experience.

Minifigure Speedway has been designed to deliver thrills while remaining accessible to a diverse family audience. It features a ride duration of approximately 75 seconds and a top speed of 57 km/h (35 mph), and is suitable for visitors 110 cm tall (accompanied) or 130 cm tall (independent riders).

The ride is themed as a friendly contest between Team Legends and Team All Stars. Visitors are encouraged to pick a side and race against their friends or family. This concept promotes engagement, replay value and long‑term visitor appeal, factors that are increasingly impacting contemporary family attractions.

Per a press release, Michael Ottesen, Legoland Billund CEO, says: "Minifigure Speedway is our largest investment in the park in several years.

"We are continuously working to enhance the Legoland experience for young and old alike, and with the dueling element, Minifigure Speedway creates fun and competition that the whole family can take part in.”

Long-standing partnership

From an engineering standpoint, the project underscores ZIERER’s expertise in creating efficient, space-optimised coaster systems customised for family-oriented theme parks.

The design melds high operational reliability, smooth ride dynamics and maximised throughput, with integration into the Lego storytelling universe.

Patrick Gegenfurtner, ZIERER project manager, says: "This project was made possible through strong teamwork and close collaboration between Merlin Entertainments, Legoland Billund and ZIERER.

"One challenge throughout the project surely was the goal to replicate the great ride experience from our first unit at Legoland Windsor yet adapting it to the different terrain in Billund.

"From engineering and project management through to our partners on site, everyone worked with great commitment and openness to achieve a smooth and successful implementation.

"Seeing the attraction open to guests is a proud moment for the entire team and a rewarding result of our shared efforts."

As one of the largest investments at Legoland Billund in recent years, Minifigure Speedway highlights the park’s dedication to enhancing the visitor experience through innovative attractions.

For ZIERER, the project further bolsters its long‑standing collaboration with Merlin Entertainments and shows how a successful ride concept can be adapted and flawlessly integrated across varied locations while maintaining its core identity.

ZIERER thanks the Legoland Billund and Merlin Entertainments team for their trust and close cooperation throughout the entire project.

The opening of Minifigure Speedway represents another key milestone in delivering high‑quality, family‑friendly attractions that bring together technology, storytelling and fun, and the manufacturer looks forward to seeing visitors enjoy thrilling races for years to come.

Earlier this year, ZIERER published a new corporate video showcasing its capabilities and its company values, with a focus on crafting moments that bring families together and inspire them.
