Executive Director

Asociación Latinoamericana de Parques Zoológicos y Acuarios (ALPZA)

Alexandra Guerra Ramírez is a passionate conservation leader who brings together zoological institutions, environmental education, and community engagement across Latin America.

As executive director of ALPZA, the Latin American Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Guerra Ramírez leads the organisation in supporting its members, strengthening regional collaboration and advancing its mission.

Her role involves extensive travel, managing the Association’s operations, welcoming new members and ensuring that its protocols and standards are upheld.

Known for her kindness and compassionate approach, she combines strong leadership with a genuine commitment to supporting colleagues and building lasting relationships across the zoological community.

Alongside her professional responsibilities, Guerra Ramírez founded the Jane Goodall Institute in Chile, dedicating her spare time to leading a team of volunteers and championing environmental education. She oversees educational programmes, fundraising initiatives and relationships with corporate sponsors, helping to expand the Institute’s reach and impact.

One of her most significant achievements is creating Chilean Fauna Day, an initiative that has grown into a major national festival. Bringing together more than 50 non-governmental organisations and attracting over 10,000 attendees, the event celebrates Chile’s wildlife and promotes conservation awareness.

Its influence has even spread internationally, with the celebration now taking place in Australia.

"She is an amazing human who does everything she can for wildlife, conservation education, and animal welfare," said one nominator.
