The National Aquarium offers a range of experiences for visitors

Polin Aquariums, a leader in international aquarium installation, has completed its work on The National Aquarium in Abu Dhabi.

With a floor space of 5,500 square metres, The National Aquarium is home to sixty different exhibits and over 45,000 animals. The investment means that the aquarium has become the biggest of its type in the Middle East region.

Zones to discover

The attraction features ten different zones, starting with a look at UAE’s national treasures and the story of pearl divers.

Guests then progress to a recreation of a Red Sea Wreck, discovering the area’s unique biodiversity. The Atlantic Cave holds the secrets of the Atlantic Ocean, followed by the Sub Zone with its comprehensive submarine theming and deep-sea creatures.

The Ring of Fire is an exciting area that invites guests to the inner workings of a volcanic cave, followed by the uncovering of ocean secrets in the Ocean Magic area. Other areas include the Puffin-filled Frozen Ocean and the Flooded Forest which starts a journey from the rivers to the sea.

The landmark feature of the aquarium, Bu Tinah Island, is a 55 meter-long tunnel. The tanks have a volume of 5,000 cubic metres, and with a depth of five metres provides guests with a space to experience diving within the attraction.

Conservation efforts

In addition to the classic aquarium admission experience, guests can also continue their adventure with add-on experiences. Visitors can enjoy the Dhow Tour, a viewing platform with a glass base to view tunnel fish from above, a glass bridge walk, and a behind-the-scenes tour to see aquarium professionals carrying out their everyday aquatic routines.

The Wildlife Rescue program, an integral part of the organisation’s work, is a joint collaboration between The National Aquarium of Abu Dhabi and the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi.

Its mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and release native wildlife from the Abu Dhabi Emirate, to help ensure the conservation of natural treasures for future generations. Aquarium staff are trained to rescue a variety of wildlife, with sea turtles benefiting from bespoke rehabilitation tanks designed especially for their species.

A representative from Polin says: “Using advanced designing and project management skills and lots of creativity, Polin Aquariums is proud to complete the largest aquarium in the Middle East. Located in Al Qana, The National Aquarium is one of the eleven Anchors situated in Al Qana; which is set to be one of Abu Dhabi’s most unique and iconic destinations.”

Last month, Polin Aquariums detailed the Magic Aquarium, another recent installation that is found in Uzbekistan.
