The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California is set to open its new Jelly Dreamscapes gallery, home to one of the most diverse collections of sea jellies in the US.

Jelly Dreamscapes will debut at the aquarium on 23 May and run through 30 April 2027, with guests able to view sea jellies amidst meditative lighting and dream-like soundscapes.

Visitors will learn about colourful sea jellies, sea nettles with free-flowing tentacles, and ctenophores that glow underwater, including the barrel jelly and California sea gooseberry.

In addition, guests will discover the diversity of sea jellies in a new film that will play throughout the day in the Aquarium of the Pacific's great hall.

As part of the new experience, visitors will learn how the aquarium's staff is able to propagate and raise more than 40 species of sea jellies in spaces specifically designed for each stage of their life cycle.

Staff members grow the nutritious food that sea jellies need to thrive, with each species’ diet mirroring what they would eat in the wild.

"Our animal care staff monitors habitat lighting, water temperature, salinity, pH, and more to ensure that these delicate creatures are appropriately cared for," said Nate Jaros, vice president of animal care, fish and invertebrates.

"They work hard behind the scenes to meet each species’ specific needs."

Earlier this year, SeaWorld San Diego opened Jewels of the Sea: A Jellyfish Experience, a new attraction with immersive elements and a variety of jelly species.
