Bence Vági

Artistic Director

Recirquel Cirque Danse

Bence Vági is the founder and artistic director of Recirquel Cirque Danse, the Hungarian contemporary circus company he established in 2012. With a background in contemporary and classical dance, Vági trained as a director and choreographer before developing cirque danse, a form that combines circus, dance and physical theatre.

Vági has directed and choreographed productions including My Land, Solus Amor, IMA and Paradisum. His work has taken Recirquel to international festivals and venues, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. My Land, which premiered in Edinburgh in 2018, explored humanity’s relationship with land, tradition and freedom through contemporary circus and movement.

His production Walk My World opened in Budapest in November 2025. Created and directed by Vági, it transforms a 6,000-square-metre venue into a mythological world inspired by Virgil’s Aeneid and the story of Dido and Aeneas. Audiences move freely through more than 40 performance spaces, choosing which characters and storylines to follow as circus, aerial performance and dance drive the narrative.

"By bringing contemporary circus into such a fully developed immersive format for the first time, Vági has opened a new creative path for both fields. He demonstrates that circus can provide not only spectacle but also the physical and emotional language of a complex, audience-led narrative," said a person who nominated Vági.
