The multi-billion pound London Resort is moving closer to its planned opening in 2023.
The final round of public consultation events surrounding the £3.2 billion London Resort will take place in early 2018 said London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH).
The developer behind the ambitious entertainment resort announced that, following the events, it will submit its Development Consent Order application in spring 2018. This is the fifth stage of a wide programme of community engagement carried out by LRCH. Over 8,000 people have already participated.
“This final round of consultation will be a crucial step towards completing our plans for the world class entertainment resort,” says Humphrey Percy, CEO of LRCH. “We have subjected our project to considerable rigour in recent months, transformed it, and in turn are creating an inspirational and deliverable scheme.”
He says he is “encouraged” that industry experts have endorsed the decision to pursue a multi-IP, two gate strategy.
“We are delighted with progress on partnership agreements,” he says. “We plan to build over 3,500 hotel rooms, operated by our new partner, Intercontinental Hotel Group.” The majority of the Resort plus new roads and infrastructure will be built using materials stored at and transported from Port of Tilbury (with whom LRCH have recently signed an agreement).
“We are now in very detailed commercial negotiations regarding partners, the concepts they are embracing and some of the incredible creative propositions.”
Percy says they are taking the time to get the project right. “The London Resort is a first for the UK,” he says. He points out that it isn’t because they will be the first business and commercial Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). “More than that, together we are creating a global entertainment resort without parallel in this country.”
Percy says that the resort will be propelled directly into the top ten theme park resorts in the world. A world-class theme park is planned, encompassing themed rides, attractions and experiences alongside day and night-time shows and parades. The resort will be sited at the Swanscombe peninsula, between Greenhithe and Northfleet in the Dartford borough of Kent – 17 minutes from London.
Percy said the park would include “globally recognised brands, stories and characters from the world of television, film, books and games.”
Paramount and LRCH parted company earlier this year. LRCH said they were not looking for an equivalent film studio partner.
The anticipated grand opening date is in 2023.
