Warner Bros. Discovery plans to open the world’s largest Harry Potter studio tour in Shanghai, China in 2027, in partnership with Jinjiang International.
The joint venture with Chinese travel and hospitality conglomerate Jinjiang International still needs regulatory approval, Warner Bros said in a statement (via Bloomberg).
The Warner Bros. statement did not include financial details, but the Harry Potter studio tour in Tokyo cost a reported $115 million. This opened in 2023, more than 10 years after the original attraction in London.

The proposed Shanghai site is the Jinjiang Amusement Park, which is owned by the local government and closed in January for renovation.
China is already home to one Harry Potter attraction, a Wizarding World of Harry Potter land at Universal Studios Beijing, opened in 2021.
At the Harry Potter studio tours, visitors can explore a range of exhibits and interactive experiences, as well as props, costumes, special effects and models used to make the iconic Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films.
In addition to famous sets like Diagon Alley and the Great Hall, guests can also enjoy a range of F&B and retail experiences.
World’s largest Harry Potter studio tour
“Ultimately, the Harry Potter books are really great stories that stand the test of time. As a brand, it’s evergreen. The original generation that read the books when they first came out and saw the films when they were first released, they’re now wanting to share that story with their children, and their children’s children,” Geoff Spooner, senior vice president of worldwide studio tours at Warner Bros. Discovery, told blooloop.
Another permanent Harry Potter experience is opening as part of Epic Universe at Universal Orlando in Florida.
One of the park’s five themed lands is a new Wizarding World of Harry Potter, based on the British Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series and 1920s Paris in the Fantastic Beasts film franchise.
