Dartmoor Zoological Society
Dave Gibson joined the Dartmoor Zoo in Devon, England as its CEO in 2024. He previously worked as assistant chief executive at The Deep, a £54m award-winning aquarium in Hull, executive director of Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland, and managing director of the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.
Gibson said he was "delighted and excited to take over the reins at Dartmoor Zoo". He added: "I don’t doubt that there will be many challenges ahead, but I have every confidence that with the support of the trustees and staff of the charity we can help this fantastic zoo achieve its full potential."
Gibson has extensive knowledge of charitable organisations, and one of his proudest achievements is his contribution to the creation of The Deep.
Established in 2007, the 33-acre Dartmoor Zoo site is home to big cats and other mammals, as well as birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.
“At Dartmoor Zoo, Dave has spearheaded a major new era of development, expanding the zoo's collection plans, upgrading site infrastructure, and strengthening its educational and research output. Under his guidance, the zoo achieved full BIAZA accreditation – a testament to his uncompromising commitment to animal welfare, veterinary training, and environmental stewardship,” said one person who nominated Gibson.
“Dave's career reflects a deep lifetime commitment to conservation, research, and high-impact public engagement. He is a respected industry leader who continually elevates standards across the zoological sector while guiding regional collections toward world-class achievements.”
