Commissioner Community Conservation and Ex-situ Wildlife Services

Uganda Wildlife Authority

David Musingo of the Uganda Wildlife Authority previously served as manager of education and information at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre, is a wildlife sanctuary, rescue center, and educational facility located on the shores of Lake Victoria in Entebbe.

One person who nominated Musingo said the centre “evolved from a mere destination for weekend outings into a dynamic hub of intellectual awakening” during his time there.

“By revitalising school outreach programmes, he ensured that hundreds of thousands of Ugandan children saw themselves as the future guardians of their heritage,” they added. “He modernised how conservation data reached the public, making complex ecological issues accessible. His leadership in conservation training created a ripple effect, equipping a new generation of rangers and educators with the tools to defend Uganda’s natural treasures.”

His tenure at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre “has been defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence in animal welfare and species recovery”, they said.

“His influence is not confined to the borders of Uganda. He has emerged as a diplomat for nature, representing the East African region on the most prestigious global stages. As a liaison to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) and the International Zoo Educators Association (IZE), he has been an eloquent advocate for the unique challenges and triumphs of African conservation.”
