The British Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, housing one of the largest and most comprehensive collections. Founded in 1753, the museum is made up of more than 8 million objects from around the world. At the core of the institution is a dedication to critical scrutiny of all assumptions, open debate, scientific research, progress and tolerance.
Exhibitions
In addition to its permanent collection, the museum also produces an extensive programme of temporary exhibitions that explore historical and contemporary issues. Many of these are then available as international touring exhibitions, giving audiences around the world access to curated highlights from the British Museum’s collection.
The team behind the museum’s touring exhibitions is made up of expert curators, conservators, project managers, scientists, and other world-class professionals, all of whom are heavily involved in the ideation, design, and production phases of putting together a new exhibition.
Touring exhibitions play a vital role in the British Museum’s goal to share knowledge and cultural heritage worldwide. By working closely with partner museums and galleries around the world, the museum ensures that its collection can educate, inspire, and build cross-cultural understanding on a global scale.
