Walt Disney World has shared new details about Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc.-themed land under construction at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
In a new blog post, Disney said the land is starting to take shape, with steel rising behind the walls as the world of Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. is brought to life.
Disney has revealed the backstory for the new land, describing Monstropolis as a monster city now powered by human laughter, which generates far more power than screams.

"Through the pages of the Monstropolis Horn, the city’s official newspaper, monsters are talking about a 'historic decision' that’s about to seriously mix things up for monster kind," said Disney.
"When James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski (you know, with one eye) discovered that human laughter generates far more power than screams, it didn’t just transform the energy crisis, it transformed Monstropolis itself."
With humans now welcome in Monstropolis as part of the H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for 'Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice', the city has established the Department of Human Relations to help monsters better understand their new guests.
"The newly instated department has been spearheading a moment that was once thought impossible: inviting humans into Monstropolis for the very first time," Disney said.
Human visitors will get to explore the monster city, meet its residents, and taste its unique F&B.
Disney has also revealed that Monstropolis will include a themed restaurant called Harryhausen's, based on the film's Japanese restaurant, as well as the Glob Theater.
As previously announced, the new land will boast Disney’s first-ever suspended coaster, which will recreate the door vault scene from the film. The coaster also features the first-ever vertical lift in a Disney park.
