Disney Tale of Moana aboard the Disney Treasure is stunning stage show rooted in authenticity and cultural relevance. This show does not lean into the broad, easy comedic moments from the film but bases the storytelling around what is important in the histories of these people.

The production showcases traditional theatrical devices and cutting-edge technology in a fresh way, making the show feel like a moment of organic storytelling. The tale is told through many techniques with live performers, impressive scenic, immersive projection and incredible puppetry.

One example is how water is a character in the story brought to life not just with projection and video - the ensemble portrays the water as part of the storytelling using people as a visual language. Projection integration was beautifully sequenced throughout including the lava, lighting, and the interaction with live performers. Projection mapping is also throughout the theatre, immersing the audience in the story. The stunning finale is the 14 foot puppet Te Ka which transforms to Te Fiti bringing the story to the climatic end.

The scale of the scenic is impressive, both in terms of the physical scenic pieces and the projection all around the theatre. Moana’s canoe carries her and Maui and moves all around the stage, powered by the ocean ensemble. It has tracking technology so lighting can be programmed to follow the canoe wherever it travels.

Projection integration was beautifully sequenced throughout including the lava, lighting, and the interaction with live performers. Projection mapping is also throughout the theatre, immersing the audience in the story.

Show uses traditional shadow puppetry, which is then enhanced with projection effects, blending this traditional theatre technique with modern technology.

Cultural consultation from experts brought a deeply personal feel to the storytelling heightening the meaning of each physical movement and phrase uttered.

  • There are 27 Fly bars, 3 lifts in the 6 decks high theatre
