Dynamic Creatures, a robotics company that designs and builds interactive character robots for entertainment and hospitality brands, is unveiling its first living character robot, intended to create a new interactive experience for theme parks, resorts, casinos, and retailers.

Unlike conventional animatronics, Hugo is built to move freely among guests.

This prototype pairs an advanced Robotic Operating System (SnowJay), 43 actuators, and an imaginative character. Hugo is designed to move freely through guest environments and could be used in theme parks, resorts, casinos, and retail settings.

SnowJay is the firm's integrated AI and robotics platform, serving as the operating system for its interactive characters. It integrates advanced robotics, learning-based control, real-time perception, behavioural programming, character design, and costuming.

Real-time interaction

"We are now developing his ability to understand the context of each encounter and respond to people in real time," shared the Dynamic Creatures team.

"Our goal is to give guests and shoppers a character who notices them, responds to them, and invites them into a story they help shape. To create moments of wonder that feel natural and personal. At Dynamic Creatures, we believe interaction is what brings a character to life. Hugo is our first step toward that vision."

Dynamic Creatures announced its launch last month following a period in stealth. Its mission is to develop a new type of mobile character that navigates guest environments smoothly, understands interaction context, and responds instantly.

As Boston Dynamics’ official entertainment and hospitality partner, the company is already collaborating with a major theme park and retailer to create personalised, engaging character experiences that leave a lasting impression.

CEO Marc Theermann, formerly Boston Dynamics' chief strategy officer and a senior leader at Google, and CTO Farbod Farshidian, a renowned robotics researcher and former research leader at the Robotics and AI Institute, co-founded Dynamic Creatures.
