Efteling in the Netherlands has officially opened its new illusion show Magicaluna, following a successful launch on 3 April.

Announced earlier this year, the latest addition to Efteling’s repertoire uses surreal, dreamlike illusions to take visitors on a journey alongside a teenage girl through her "dizzying dreams".

Following the premiere, the theme park said the cast and crew "received a thunderous round of applause".

According to a press release, the new show follows a teenage girl named Luna who packs away her toys to bid farewell to her childhood. When Luna goes to sleep, her room is transformed into a "grand dream spectacle".

"Luna awakens and is amazed again and again. Toys that move as if alive, shadows that guide her, and illusions that take her into a world full of imagination," the description reads.

Running until 8 November, the show features three daily performances at the Efteling Theatre and is recommended for guests aged six and above.

The show was created in collaboration with producer Magus Utopia, bringing a dreamlike illusion performance to life for the first time with Efteling’s distinctive signature style.

Nicole Scheffers, Efteling's director of park and resorts, said: "This dreamlike illusion show allows our guests to experience wonder in an entirely new way at Efteling.

"With this, we are enriching our entertainment offering and maximising the use of the Efteling Theatre in the coming months. Magicaluna is full of surreal illusions that will amaze our guests and conveys an important life lesson: you are never too old to dream."

Bringing dreamlike illusions to life

Earlier this year, Efteling revealed plans for a new fairytale, the Fairytale Library, which is scheduled to open in 2027 in the area around the Chinese Nightingale.

The Chinese Nightingale closed on 8 March and is expected to return in a refreshed form next year.
