Universal Orlando has introduced an original character as part of Epic Universe's first-anniversary celebrations.

Captain Cacao, the original bear character who serves as the face of the park's Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets shop, will make his debut in the park this month.

The new meet-and-greet is set to take place at Celestial Park, the park’s central hub, from 22 May. Guests will be able to find Captain Cacao near the Oak & Star Tavern.

Via a blog post, Captain Cacao is "ready to meet new explorers as he travels the cosmos seeking the best treats to sell in his store, Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets".

Universal has shared new images of the character, who can be seen wearing his shoulder sash, big blue hat and a white chocolate star over his eye.

Previously, when speaking about Captain Cacao, Gina Scheraldi, show producer on the Universal Creative design team, explained the lore behind the bear and another Celestial Park inhabitant, Maya of the Skies.

"Maya of the Skies is a young girl who travels across the cosmos on her moonship," Scheraldi said. "She met Captain Cacao on an adventure, and he became her navigator so that he could keep travelling with this best friend."

The friends travel across the cosmos in search of the best ingredients to bring back to Celestial Park, and the Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets shop features special doors dedicated to the pair.

Epic Universe opened on 22 May 2025, debuting five new lands: Celestial Park, Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, and Dark Universe.

Comcast recently released its financial results for the first quarter of this year, confirming that Epic Universe continues to boost attendance and revenue in its theme parks segment.
